We’re past the March Equinox, the clocks go forward one hour this weekend, the mornings and evenings are getting lighter. You would be forgiven for thinking that spring has sprung – but the weather in the UK is very chilly indeed. Time for some toasty, tasty Chateau Rouge treats?
A few sunny days have lulled us into a false sense of security, and now we’re feeling the cold a little more than we did before. The Chateau Rouge team provide their toasty top tips for staying warm.
What could be more warming or more comforting than a nice, big mug of hot chocolate? But the Chateau Rouge artisanal drinking chocolate is not just any old chocolatey drink. It’s 70 percent dark, artisan-flaked chocolate, ablend of pure Valrhona cocoa powder, vanilla and select Dominican Republic single origin chocolate, all made insmall batches. Designed to be rich, comforting and oh-so chocolatey, you can make the drinking chocolate with water, milk or any dairy alternatives. Perfect to warm you up on unexpectedly cold days or nights. The new, large 425g tins have two packets of drinking chocolate in them, sealed to keep the top-quality drinking chocolate fresh, so they should keep you going for a while!
If you fancy something to kick start your system in the cold weather, look no further than this warming, soothing blend of spices and chocolate. Made in the same way as the popular 1657 Artisanal Drinking Chocolate, this blend has the spicy yet subtle addition of chilli and cinnamon – both spices known for their health supporting and circulation boosting properties. Make it an extra indulgent treat by adding some fresh cream into the mix.
If chocolate isn’t your thing, how about some tea and honey instead? Long used to help fight off colds and sniffles the world over, a hot cup of tea with a drizzle of good quality honey can work wonders when the weather’s cold or you are suffering with a cold! A drop of honey works well in most black teas, such as Queen of Darjeeling, but also goes well with a nice cup of rooibos or honeybush, which each have their own comforting and health giving properties.
We recommend teaming a spoonful of Chateau Rouge’s unpasteurised, coarse filtered honey with a nice hot cup of Honeybush Tea for a rich, smooth and soothing drink. The Honeybush tea is available as loose leaf or new, convenient teabag pyramids. Full of goodness, the tea naturally contains no caffeine and is choc-full of antioxidants and minerals.
In the cold weather, it’s a good idea to boost your metabolism and immunity with a pot of green tea. Our favourites are Jasmine Dragon Pearls, a delicately flavoured and comforting brew, and Butterfly Lovers, 100 percent organic green tea, blended with organic bergamot oil, dried Seville oranges, wildflower petals. The perfect pick-me-up when the weather is miserable!
Hot, buttered toast is a staple comfort food and winter warmer. Why not keep the wintry theme going with some tasty fig and walnut preserve spread on your toast instead? Made to a traditional French recipe, the fruit jam goes perfectly with tea, coffee or hot chocolate, and the rich flavours are reminiscent of the festive season. And you don’t need to feel guilty about it, as there’s no added cane sugar, relying instead on the natural sweetness of this Corsican fruit. That’ll warm your cockles!
Stay safe and keep warm in these chilly days. And don’t forget to put your clocks forward at the weekend!
