Organic Vanilla Rooibos

The most popular of all our Rooibos teas. From the Wiedouw farm in the Cederberg Mountains of South Africa, where it is organically grown, hand-picked and cured naturally in the sun, this special long-cut Rainforest Alliance certified Rooibos (and Fair-trade from 2013) has a soothing aroma and sweet vibrant taste, complimented by the addition of the best organic vanilla in the world, from Madagascar. For this tea we use only 100% organic vanilla pods and do not add any essences or flavourings, producing a natural tasting blend that is flavoursome even after the second or third infusion.

  • Contains: 100g Loose Leaf Tea
  • Ingredients: Organic long-cut Rooibos and Madagascar vanilla
  • Origin: Wiedouw, Western Cape, South Africa
  • Taste: Sweet vanilla combined with soothing Rooibos flavours that melts in the mouth

    • As Rooibos has no tannins the tea can be re-infused two or more times and can be left to infuse longer for a stronger cup. Best appreciated without adding anything to it but extremely versatile and equally delicious with milk, or honey - make stronger if you drink with milk .

    • It could not get better than this: the best organic vanilla from Madagascar blended with the finest organic Rooibos from South Africa! The smooth sweet vanilla accentuates the natural Rooibos textures, and produces a smooth velvet tea that soothes and invigorates at the same time, equally perfect for lazy sunny afternoons or cozy winter nights around the fireplace.   Grown only in the Cederberg mountains in the semi-desert Western Cape of South Africa, Rooibos – Afrikaans for ‘red bush’ – is naturally green but gets its deep red colour and rich flavour from fermentation similar to that of black tea.

From the organic Wiedouw estate near Vanrhynsdorp, these thin needle-like leaves offer a unique taste experience: an inviting vanilla aroma, woody flavours and a sweet, mild, fruity taste.   Although in 1772 botanist Carl Thunberg was the first Westerner to mention this wild shrub, the indigenous Khoisan were well aware of Rooibos’ remarkable health benefits and had been brewing it for centuries.

The Cape’s early Dutch settlers adopted Rooibos instead of expensive black tea from Europe. In 1904 Russian immigrant Benjamin Ginsberg, recognising its potential, became the first to trade it from the Bushmen and pioneered its cultivation. More recently, Rooibos has become famous for being the favourite drink of Precious Ramotswe of ‘The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’ novels.
